Initiative

Being ill at an old age with the need of being cared for- that is something nobody likes to think about. Though not in Braunschweig. The project “eHealth.Braunschweig” deals exactly with this topic. For a good reason: the amount of long- term care patients will rise rapidly.

The future demographical development is a huge task for medicine, as there will be less young and more older people. Additionally the amount of chronically ill patients will rise as well as the requirements to the physicians.

The project eHealth.Braunschweig, which unites partners from economy, health care and science and is sponsored by funds from the European Union, wants to cope with the challenge – by integrating Information- and Communication Technologies into the health care system.

The claim of eHealth.Braunschweig arises in the development of modern and trendsetting linked care services. Next to the human being, whose benefit of eHealth.Braunschweig lies in the rise of quality in health care and the medical actors who improve their positions in competition by establishing new care services, regional enterprises of the health care management benefit as well.

New business segments will be identified in the growing health- market. Next to providers of Information- and Communication Technologies, for example enterprises of the real estate business are included. On the one hand, the health of their older residents is of commercial interest for them and on the other hand, new business segments are opened by the offer of additional value services. By the help of continued public relations, the enterprises are able to participate in the results already during the duration of the project.

Main focuses

It is our aim to show what patient- orientated supply can look like in a prototypical way.

With eHealth.Braunschweig, all relevant actors of health care supply and health care management shall systematically work together in a “health care network” to measurably improve the quality and efficiency of health care supply on the basis of Information- and Communication Technologies.

Due to this background, the following project aims arise:

  1. Identification, creation of concepts and the prototypical realization of new linked supply services and Information- and Communication Technology tools for the support of this health care network.
  2. Creation of the interoperability of medical information systems for the support of the patient- orientated care.
  3. Examination of Information- and Communication Technology based services in the network upon their contribution to care quality and –efficiency.
  4. Establishment of an organizational structure for the support of the systematical enhancement of the network.
